Datuang Dong Nationality Village Of Suining County Listed In the World’s Preparatory Cultural Heritage

“A couple of magpies are flying happily...”. This melodious guest-welcoming song together with fragrance of flowers will greet visitors coming to Datuang Dong Nationality village of Suining County. Since 2012 when it was listed in the national world’s preparatory cultural heritage, the village has been making efforts to excavate and protect Dong nationality culture. Great progress has been made ever since.
Well preserved in the village are old constructions in Dong national style like the drum tower, the dancing square, the wind-rain bridge, decorates and costumes like the red silk ribbon as a symbol for auspiciousness and the national clothes people wear especially on special occasions, and customs like presenting welcoming wine to visitors at the village gate, eating black rice, and dancing while singing Dong national songs at festivals. In every courtyard which are kept clean, there grow various flowers.
Not only is Suining County active in excavating, collecting and arranging national songs, costumes and cultural relics but also in organizing cadres and villagers to sing national songs, beat waist drums and perform bamboo-bar dances. In addition, a folk performing team of 50 actors and actresses was set up, which has rehearsed more than ten programs, such as “Flying to the Tong nationality village”, “Duoye Dance” and “Girls of the Black Mountain Singing Love Songs”. A large number of poets and scholars are attracted to the land to collect folk songs and make explorations and surveys.
